cliveperks.co.uk is my personal website. I am Clive Perks, a Chartered Financial Planner.

What this site collects

Nothing. There are no forms on these pages, no sign-up, no newsletter and no way to send me a message from here. Nothing you type is collected, because there is nowhere to type.

Every button on this site takes you to supportivefp.co.uk, which is a separate website with its own privacy policy.

Google Analytics, and only if you say yes

If you agree to it, this site uses Google Analytics to count visits.

What it records: which pages are looked at and roughly for how long, whether you arrived from a search engine or from a link somewhere else, the general sort of device you are using, and an approximate location worked out from your internet connection, usually no closer than the town.

What it does not record: your name, your address, or anything you have told me. It cannot, because this site never asks for any of it.

Why I use it at all: so I know which parts of this page people actually read, and whether writing it was worth the time.

It does not run unless you agree

The first time you arrive, a small strip at the bottom asks you to choose. Until you choose, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.

That is worth being precise about. This is not a case of loading Google’s code and then asking it politely to stay quiet. The code is never fetched from Google in the first place, so nothing about your visit reaches them.

If you choose Reject, that stays true, on this visit and every later one. If you choose Accept, Analytics starts on that visit and on the ones after it.

Choosing nothing counts as no. If you ignore the strip entirely, nothing runs.

How long anything is kept

Google keeps the visit data for 14 months. After that it is deleted automatically, without anybody having to ask for it.

Nothing is kept on this site itself, because nothing is collected here in the first place.

Changing your mind

At the bottom of every page there is a control marked Cookie settings. Select it and the strip comes back, and you can choose again.

If you switch from Accept to Reject, the cookies Google Analytics had already put on your device are deleted at the same moment. Turning it off for next time would not be enough on its own, because the identifiers would still be sitting there.

The one cookie that is always set

When you choose, a single small cookie records what you chose. It holds one word, either accepted or rejected. Nothing else. No number, no identifier, nothing that could be used to recognise you.

It lasts twelve months, and then you are asked again.

This one does not need your permission, because it exists only to remember the answer you gave. A site is allowed to remember your choice without asking permission to remember it.

This site is a personal one. Regulated financial advice is provided through Supportive Financial Planning Ltd, and anything to do with becoming a client, or with information held about you as a client, is covered by that firm’s own privacy policy at supportivefp.co.uk.
